Weir It Solutions: Books and More’ has a new publication set to come out next month. ‘Rollover Trucker: Recipes to Prevent Disaster’ is an introduction to the transportation industry, meant to give potential new drivers a realistic portrayal of what truck drivers really do out here on a day by day basis.
‘So many people see the ads in the newspapers seeking drivers. They see that they can make good money but don’t realize what is entailed in being a truck driver. The hours are sporadic and there is no such thing as a 9-5 job when you’re a truck driver. Long hours and unrealistic expectations usually results in large turnover rates in the trucking industry. That is where this new book comes into play. It gives readers an appreciation of the trucking industry so they can make an informed career decision.’
Henry is a student driver who spent the past six weeks with a trainer. He has high hopes of making it as a truck driver. There are hardships at home. Both his wife and him were laid off from their jobs and have practically lost everything. Henry hopes that he will be able to get ahead now.
It is a great feeling to think that being a truck driver will solve a lot of financial problems. One of the biggest adjustments he had to make was the long hours. ‘I am driving both days and nights. I drive 70 hours a week. That is way more hours than I am used to.”
Henry also did not realize that many trucking companies have either gone out of business or are struggling to hang on. He did not know about the 1400 drivers who were stranded all over the country when Arrow Trucking went out of business. All he knew was that he was going to make some money.
‘Rollover Trucker: Recipes to Prevent Disasters’ may help provide insight and give prospective applicants a better understanding. If nothing else, it will give the general public a realistic portrayal of those who share the roads with them.
