Not sure what dog's on the lap got to do with Qualcomm. but the two companies I drove for had the Units so they caouldn't work while the truck was in motion. They could beep you but you had to pull over or find a safe place to stop to see what the message was. I myself like the Qualcomm.

The new Qualcomm units (Omnivision) are set up and installed so that if the truck is moving, it cannot be accessed except thru a text-to-voice feature.

You hit the nail on the head with this post, Greed.
It's difficult to pinpoint which Trucking Fleets support the ATA's pish for heavy trucks but it is possible to learn what consumer products companies are contributing to this Heavy Truck issue.
Canned Soup for one who primarily contracts with Student Trucking Fleets may may not understand what a serious safety issue this can be to haul heavier.
One such Company I have hauled Soup from is located in Central California where I have to go over the trecherous "Grape Vine" where smoking tires & radiators are a common sight.
The other alternative routes out of California wouuld be "Donner Pass" another dangerous route even in good weather.
I don't think people understand that Heavier Trucks mean a Truckers chance of dying or causing death to another just increased for the cost savings of a few cans of soup.
